Pros / What Makes It Good
-
Very high sequential speeds, close to maximum possible for PCIe 4.0 SSDs.
-
Very good random I/O especially at higher queue depths — good for heavy workloads, loading many small files/games.
-
Good endurance for 4TB drive (2400 TBW).
-
Single-sided design: helpful in laptops or PS5 where thickness / space / heatsink clearance matter.
-
Samsung’s firmware / software (Magician etc.) for monitoring, updates, encryption support, etc.
Cons / What to Watch
-
Under sustained heavy writes past the SLC / cache buffer, write speeds will drop. The drive uses a write-cache (Turbo Write / dynamic/static) and once that is exceeded, performance dips.
-
Power draw under load is non-trivial; in laptops or constrained cooling, might heat up / throttle. Good cooling or heatsink helps.
-
Price: premium SSD — you get great performance, but cost/GB and competing models might offer better value depending on your use case.
-
Requires a system that supports PCIe 4.0 ×4 interface to get full speed; older/motherboards or laptops with only PCIe 3 will bottleneck.
